Wedding Make Up Top Tips

Top tips for booking your perfect wedding make up.

Today our team Interviewed very talented Rebecca Searle,  one of the best wedding Make up Artist in South West.

What inspired you to start your own business?
When I first came back from make up school in London there wasn’t very many make up artists working in Devon and Cornwall. I realised that I could start my own business and advertise to brides locally at wedding fayres and through making contacts with other suppliers, social media wasn’t really a thing back then!  I knew there wasn’t a possibility for employment here so I thought I would create my own job and work for myself doing what I love to do!

What do brides need to keep in mind when booking  wedding make-up?

I think that it’s very important that brides choose a make up artist that suits their style. If you don’t wear much make up then I wouldn’t advise booking someone who’s speciality is heavy glam and vice versa. It’s important you feel comfortable on the day and feeling like you have too much make up/not enough make up could really change how you feel about your overall look.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love being part of everyone’s big day, getting to meet so many lovely people and seeing all the beautiful dresses. it’s really very special to be a part of the wedding mornings
How far in advance to brides need to book?
I tend to take bookings 12-18 months in advance, I only do one wedding a day to make sure the bride has my full attention and I can be there all morning with them with no need to rush, so dates can get booked up quickly
How do you ensure the bride’s look lasts as long as possible and is there anything brides can do on the day to keep their look fresh?
There’s a few things you can do to make sure make up lasts all day, using the correct skincare to prep the brides skin is important, using primers, layering cream products with powders to set them and I love setting sprays! I always advise brides that they need to purchase a lipstick with to touch up through the day as that will fade due to the drinking/eating and all the kissing!
What’s a wedding day like? How early do you start and how long does everything take?
How early we start depends on the time of the wedding and how big the wedding party is, I like to allow 45 minutes per person and I like to be finished an hour before the ceremony starts to give everyone time to get in their dresses, have photos taken and have a glass of bubbly together but I like to stay until the end to do any last minute touch ups on lipsticks
Are there any wedding top-tips you’d like to share?
I always say to my brides to make sure they take the time to take everything in, enjoy every moment
How would you describe your wedding make up styles?
I would class my make up style as ‘natural glam’ I like healthy looking skin, dewy cheeks and I love neutral smokey eye with a soft fluttery lash. I believe brides should look like the best version of themselves, not try and change how they look with heavy contouring and dramatic make up, as that’s not what their husbands fell in love with and see everyday
Tell us about your trials
I love meeting my brides for their trials, it’s a great way of getting to know them, I like to see pictures of what they normally wear and pictures of bridal make up that they like they like so I can get an idea of what style/amount of make up they feel comfortable with. We try our different products and styles and then create a make up look using their favourite products
What’s your favourite wedding make up of all time
My favourite bridal look of all time is a healthy, glowing skin with a soft bronzey smokey eye, some fluttery eyelashes and a natural lip. Radiant, healthy and timeless.
