Wooladon Estate Wedding | Liam & Nicole’s Rainy Day

Wooladon Estate wedding was a perfect reminder that bad weather doesn’t mean bad wedding photos. When Liam and Nicole got married at Wooladon Estate last November, Devon delivered the full package. Heavy rain. Strong winds. Dark skies. The kind of weather that would make most couples nervously refresh the forecast every five minutes.

Not these two.

From the moment I arrived, Liam and Nicole simply embraced whatever the day had in store. Instead of worrying about the weather, they focused on what really mattered – spending time with family and friends and celebrating becoming husband and wife.

A Rainy November Wedding at Wooladon Estate

The rain never really stopped all day.

Normally that’s the point where wedding photographers start looking for backup plans and couples start worrying about portraits. But some of my favourite wedding photographs are created on days exactly like this.

Wooladon Estate looked incredible in the dramatic conditions. The rolling Devon countryside disappeared into mist, the grounds with autumn leaves became beautifully moody and the rain added a cinematic feel to every image.

There was something incredibly romantic about it all.

The weather became part of the story rather than something getting in the way of it.

Why We Loved This Wooladon Estate Wedding

This was my first time photographing a wedding at Wooladon Estate and it certainly won’t be my last.

The venue offers everything you could want from a Devon wedding venue. Beautiful interiors, exclusive use, stunning countryside views and plenty of character throughout.

Even with the rain hammering against the windows outside, the venue felt warm, relaxed and welcoming.

Romantic Portraits in the Rain

At some point during the day, we headed outside for a few portraits.

The rain was still falling and the wind was still blowing, but Liam and Nicole completely trusted the process.

The result was magic.

The movement in Nicole’s dress, the dark, autumn trees behind them and the way they naturally leaned into each other created photographs that felt authentic and emotional.

Some wedding days are bright and colourful.

This Wooladon Estate wedding was moody, atmospheric and full of character.

Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.
